The government must retool it's communication department to debunk or confirm rumours in the country, especially when they are based on illegalities, Dr. Daniel Ato Aidoo, Policy Analyst, Kra Consult, has said.

In his periodic writings branded - "Ogyakrom Diary", latest of which covered "Illegal Mining, the Professor, and Mass Communication", Aidoo questioned why the government had remained silent, allowing rumours about Prof. Frimpong Boateng to gain roots in the political space.

Dr. Aidoo asked: Is it true that Prof. Boateng's son is engaged in galamsey (illegal mining ) in the Brong Ahafo region? And that explains why Operation Vanguard has not extended its work to the Brong Ahafo region? Is the Operation Vanguard team present in the Brong Ahafo region?

According to the policy analyst, government communicators must answer these questions, delve deep into political communication and use it effectively.

"Is the individual engaged in this illegality Boateng's son? Is it true illegal mining is going on in the area or the opposition is just blowing hot air, he inquired?

Dr. Aidoo wrote "if through mass communication a government can impart information to the people, a process touted as a miracle that benefits many, why is the government silent on this important issue of illegality?.

According to Dr. Aidoo, "it is said that mass communication is absolutely necessary for the governance system, adding that he agrees with those who have held or continue to hold that viewpoint.
