De-Eye Saga: Don’t keep quiet; this is the time to act – Kwesi Aning to Parliament

Dr Kwesi Aning a security expert is surprised that a private security organization known as De-Eye is operating at the Osu Castle which is a security zone.

A Joy News investigative piece conducted by Manasseh Azure titled “Militia in the heart of the Nation” revealed the private organisation training men and women to provide security for various functions.

Even though the ruling New Patriotic Party, reacting to this documentary says Osu Castle which happens to be the former seat of government is no longer a security zone; meaning anybody can hire the place; Kwesi Aning insists it is a security zone because when it was his turn to appear before the Justice Emile Short Commission (Osu Castle) the security on duty asked him to park outside because no car was allowed inside a security zone.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah issued a statement indicating that the group was evicted in October 2018; a statement Manasseh Azure has debunked.

Oppong Nkrumah also indicated that the founder of the organization, Nana Wireko Addo who was a former bodyguard of President Akufo-Addo was at the Osu Castle because he was assigned to retrieve landed properties in the hands of former government appointees.

According to him, Nana Wireko Addo was “assigned an office there (Osu Castle) to work with a task force to retrieve landed properties and vehicles in the possession of officials of the erstwhile Mahama Administration” however, he later converted his office into “a private business office for the stated purposes of his company (De-Eye group).

The Minister of Information further admitted that "this (using Osu Castle for his private business) should not have been allowed to happen in the first place.

Reacting to this during an interview on Joy Newsfile programme, Dr Aning said he was not surprised about content in the documentary, however, “what surprises me is their location and the failure of our security services to know that such an organization” is operating at the Osu Castle.

According to him, “if national security and the police were not able to dislodge this group as far as 2018 then there are more questions to ask…it shows the limited powers of the institution known to protect us”

He, therefore, asked the Members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior not to keep quiet on this issue adding; “this is the time to act”.
