Current economic growth is NDC’s investment – Fiifi Kwetey

Member of Parliament for Ketu South, Fiifi Kwetey has discredited Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta’s claims that the government has turned things in the country around in less than a year in office.

According to the lawmaker, Ken Ofori-Atta’s presentation of the 2018 Budget statement which extols the Akufo-Addo government’s achievements within a short period are mere utterances of distortion stating that, the New Patriotic Party is only riding on the back of the accomplishments of the John Mahama-led administration.

The honourable MP held that, over the period since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took up office there has been no substantive initiative that the government has put in place to stabilise the economy.

“…you can barely talk about any real development infrastructure haven taken place. If you heard at the very last end when he started mentioning projects he basically was talking about on-going projects that really the NDC has actually started,” he told GhanaWeb.

He added, “A year that a lot of capital expenditure payment were not done. A lot of contractors were left completely unpaid, a year that they promised to initiate real things that would bring job for Ghanaians and that has not been seen, taxes that they claim they were going to remove that will spare the growth of the economy and really if you look at what growth they are talking about now it’s all coming from oil which really was investment done by the previous government”.

“In the midst of all that you hear the Minister claiming that they have somehow turned the situation around, they’ve been able to fix the energy situation and when you and I know they’ve added nothing as far as energy was concerned. It was all investment again done by the NDC”.

He asserted that the NPP is only fond of talking and not cracking the whip to ensure that their promises are delivered as Ghanaians who voted them into office still await their ballooned capabilities.

“You could clearly see it’s the same repetition of promises, the same slogan that are being churned again, and again and again and Ghanaian’s actually deserve far more than that.

"They were supposed to show what capacity they have by way of bringing something to the non-oil sector which is the real sector that employs Ghanaians and that has not happened. So if not for the investment done by the NDC they clearly wouldn’t be talking about growth today,” Fiifi lamented.
