President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng

President of the Ghana Union of Traders (GUTA) Dr. Joseph Obeng has suggested the outbreak of the coronavirus has badly affected their businesses.

He told host of Frontline Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the outbreak is the last ‘Straw that broke the camel’s back’ for Ghanaian businesses.

Dr. Obeng lamented the banking crisis left several businesses halting and others suffering the consequences but the outbreak of the COVID-19 has been worse.

”The collapse of banks, microfinance institutions and other financial institutions affected us badly but the outbreak of the virus is the last straw that broke the camel’s back for us.”

Meanwhile, he has appealed to businesses to comply with the directives and protocols in place to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

He said GUTA has embarked on education campaigns to ensure their members value the need to stay at home if they have nothing essential to do in town.

He stressed the need for the government to intensify education to help contain the virus.
