Former President, John Dramani Mahama says he will not be pressurised by the mere opinions and views of people on what he does with monies that belong to him with regards to supporting the fight against Coronavirus.

He admits that these indeed are not ordinary times and the country needs all the funds and assistance it can get in different regards.

He, however, maintains that there is more than one way to eat a pie. Someone’s choice, may be to donate part of his salary to a fund intended to support the course of combatting Coronavirus.

His choice may differ. For Mr. Mahama, he would rather buy Personal Protective Equipment and distribute to health facilities across the country. Ultimately he believes, the greater course of solving a problem and helping change the situation should be the focus.

His comments come on the back of suggestions that he follows the President’s example to donate towards the COVID-19 Fund to which other entities have also donated.

He had this to say during an interview on Joynews;

“Somebody decides to donate his salary, that’s for him. I am spending money buying PPEs and distributing them. Everybody does what he thinks he can do best to help. I believe that donating my salary in the future will not help...”

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Fund set up for well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute their widow’s mite to the fight against the pandemic will be headed by former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.

She will receive contributions to help improve the lives of those who will be worst hit by the viral outbreak in the country.

Other members of the Board of trustees of the Fund are Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, Jude Kofi Bucknor, Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, Elsie Addo-Awadzie, Dr. Ernest Ofori-Sarpong, and Dr. Tanko Collins Asare.

Since its establishment, several organizations and individuals have made donations to the COVID-19 Fund.
