Former Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Nsiah-Asare has disclosed that more COVID-19 patients have been treated and will soon be discharged.

Though, unable to give the actual number of patients, he explained that the majority of patients at the various isolation centers have tested negative after treatment and that they are waiting for the second results of their test.

But he says the number of people who have tested negative far outnumber the number of people who have been put out.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he noted that the government will not be overwhelmed by the rising numbers of persons infected with the virus because adequate measures have been put in place to handle such cases.

Though the government is working to ensure that the Coronavirus fight is completely over, Ghanaians should constantly observe the safety protocols put in place because some may not be lucky to survive if they are infected with the virus.

He added that the government appreciates the efforts of all institutions who are helping in the fight against COVID-19 but should also endeavor to assist the government in whatever way necessary to ensure the safety protocols are observed.

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has cleared the backlog of samples being tested for Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, who disclosed this during a press briefing in Accra on May 5, said, “we have done some 18,000 tests over the weekend to wipe the backlog.“

The Kumasi Center of Collaborative Research (KCCR) however, has a backlog of 1,982 samples to be tested, he says.

In a detailed analysis of the latest recorded cases, Dr. Aboagye said of the new Covid-19 figures recorded, 919 were from the routine surveillance whilst 1,685 were from the enhanced contact tracing and testing in Kumasi and Accra.

The number for those mandatorily quarantined remains 115.

He further noted that most of the cases were reported in 24 out of 26 districts in the Greater Accra Region.

Touching on the case management, Dr. Aboagye said 2,402 of the 2,719 cases are responding to treatment with seven in moderate to critical condition.

“We have recorded 18 deaths as 294 have recovered from the infection”.

Dr. Aboagye said 200 more COVID-19 patients are awaiting their second test results to be confirmed recovered.
