Captain Mahama’s wife has not spoken since his death – Family

Mr. Fred Magnaduri, an uncle to the lynched military officer, Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama has said the family is yet to recover from the emotional trauma following the death of their young relative.

He said the sad event which happened on Monday in Boase, a mining community in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region was distasteful to the family and are still struggling to come to terms with the incident particularly his wife who has remained incommunicado.

In an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5FM, the distressed uncle described the circulating video of the late Captain Mahama’s killing as heartbreaking.

“As I watched those videos of my nephew struggling for his dear life, as I watched his cloth being stripped off and saw the images of his brutalised body, the only thing I could ask myself was, is this Ghana, are they the same people that attend church on Sundays and at the mosque on Fridays and pray to God for long life that did anybody in that crowd hear that young man cry, asking for help, calling for his mother, thinking about his wife and his two little boys who will soon be deprived of a father… I think is time for some retrospection here,” Mr. Magnaduri said.

When asked about conflicting reports that Captain Mahama was at the community protecting the illegal miners, Mr. Magnaduri said, “I think it’s stupid, there’s no truth to that, I think it’s disingenuous for men of honour like what the DCE said yesterday. I was really shocked to hear that Adam will resign from the military than to subject himself to that level of indignity.”

He said the Captain Maxwell Mahama is related to the ex President John Mahama, a grand-nephew to the former Speaker of Parliament, Mrs. Bamford Addo, the great-grandfather, Lt. Bamford was a former IGP and his father, Retired Captain Mahama also worked closely with the current Chief of Defence.

Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was a Commander of a Military Detachment in Boase was killed by the inhabitants when he went for jogging Monday morning on suspicion he was an armed robber.

Two women reportedly saw a pistol on him, and because of an armed robbery incident that had happened recently in the area, raised alarm and called the assemblyman for the area who organized the youth of the town to lynch him.

Captain Maxwell Mahama who was not dressed in military uniform at the time pleaded several times that he was not a criminal, but the angry residents kept hitting him with cement blocks until he died. They then burned his body.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured that persons involved in the killing will be arrested and dealt with ruthlessly according to the law.

In a tweet, the President expressed his condolences to the family of Captain Mahama on their tragic loss.

Scores of youth in Boase have been rounded up in a swoop Tuesday, by soldiers who have stormed the town following the killing of the junior Military officer.
