Ayew credits Gyan’s experience for Stars' victory

Ghana winger Andre Ayew insists Captain Asamoah Gyan’s experience was the defining factor that aided the Black Stars in achieving the vital 1-0 triumph over Algeria in the Group C clash of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations on Friday. After Ghana had labored for 90 minutes without finding the back of the net following Jordan Ayew’s notable miss in the 61st minute, the Al Ain striker latched onto a Mubarak Wakaso assist to slot the ball past Desert Foxes goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi in the 92nd minute. “In the last minute, the experience of Asamoah Gyan proved important. I think when there is a player with that experience it is good because the same opportunity maybe a younger player can have it and miss it,” Ayew told reporters in a post match interview in Mongomo. “Maybe if Gyan had it 10 years ago when he was in his 20’s he would have missed it but today he has the leadership quality to put in balls which come with a lot of pressure because it’s the last chance and he did it,” he added. The Black Stars will again be looking to the experience of Asamoah Gyan to record a high-scoring win over South Africa in Tuesday’s final Group C match and brighten Ghana’s chances of advancing to the last 8 of the AFCON 2015.
