Asawase NDC polls: Mubarick not cleared – NDC

Mr Masawudu Mubarick, who was seeking to contest in the Asawase parliamentary primaries of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not been cleared to contest in the party’s internal polls, Barbara Asamoah, a member of the Conflict Resolution team of the party in the Ashanti Region, has said.

Ms Asamoah explained on the mid-day news on Accra100.5FM on Wednesday, 24 July 2019 that Mr Mubarick presented a petition to the party complaining about his inability to file his nomination.

The party, she said, invited Mr Mubarick to appear before the Conflict Resolution Committee to brief the members about the gravamen of his petition and also provide some clarification on certain issues.

This, she said, could not be described as clearance for the aspirant to file.

Mr Mubarick had earlier told the state-owned Daily Graphic that his forms had been accepted by the party and given the go-ahead to run.

But Ms Asamoah said Mr Mubarick should be ignored.

“He has not been cleared to contest,” she insisted.

Last week, an executive of the Mallam Kataki branch of the NDC in the Asawase Constituency, Mr Umar Yasir, served notice that he would sue the largest opposition party over its refusal to allow Mr Mubarick to contest in the party’s parliamentary primaries.

He accused the national executives of the party, including the General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, of scheming to ensure that Muntaka Mubarak, the current Member of Parliament for Asawase, went unopposed.

On Thursday, 18 July 2019, Mr Mubarick was locked out of the party’s regional office together with his supporters when they went there to file his nomination.

They party insists he cannot be part of the process because he is under suspension.
