An apprentice tile layer, who allegedly robbed a businessman of his two mobile phones and cash totalling GH?12,600.00, has been remanded into police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kwame Precious pleaded not guilty to the charge and would reappear before the Court presided over by Mrs Lydia Osei Marfo, on November 22, 2019.

The accused and a run-away accomplice only known as Akwasi, both residing in Kumasi, were said to have pulled a pistol on one Alhassan Acquah, the complainant and seized from him the items and cash, as he parked his car and was conversing with a lady.

Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Akowuah told the Court that, the robbery took place on July 26, 2018 at about 2200 hours, when the complainant had parked his Toyota RAV 4 in front of the lady friend’s house at Adumanu in Kumasi and was having a chat with her in the vehicle.

Whilst in the vehicle, complainant suddenly heard a bang on his side door, he turned to that direction and saw the accused and his accomplice dressed in a red pullover and armed with a locally-made Pistol, with their faces partly covered.

“They opened the vehicle door and pointing the pistol at the complainant, ordered him to surrender all his valuables” the Court heard.

Prosecution said accused succeeded in forcibly taking from the complainant his two “Oppo” phones valued at GH?6,500.00, one iPhone 7 valued at GH?5,000.00, a cash sum of GH?1,100.00, totalling GH?12,600.00, his wallet containing his ATM visa card, a voter’s ID card, driver’s license.

After tossing the booty to his accomplice, both started running away from the scene.

The complainant who was also armed with a pistol shot at the direction of the accomplice but missed him, he however gave them a hot chase and managed to grab the accused amidst calls for help, whiles his accomplice managed to slip through with the stolen items, ASP Akowuah told the Court.

Complainant’s screams for help attracted some people around who arrested and handed accused over to a Police patrol team together with the locally-made pistol and one live cartridge.

He was sent to the Suame Police Station where a complaint was made against him. In his caution statement, he denied the offence, but was charged and arraigned before the Court after police investigations, prosecution said.
