Amoatey presents PPEs, Ghc 10,000 to help fight Coronavirus

Efforts to fight the Coronavirus pandemic in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region have been boosted with the presentation of 50 sets of covid-19 prevention items to residents and institutions within the constituency.

That is not all as the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer Magnus Kofi Amoatey presented a cheque for Ghc 10,000 to the Yilo Krobo Municipal Health Directorate and its 38 health facilities in the municipality to enable it purchase various PPEs it would require in its efforts to combat the outbreak, especially as frontline health workers faced a lot of challenges in the discharge of their duties.

The presentation of the covid19 prevention items including veronica buckets with stands, hand sanitizers, tissue, liquid soaps and bowls on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 was also made to the Somanya Polyclinic, Somanya Police Command, Fire Service, District Court, National Health Insurance Scheme, Nkurakan Clinic, Nkurakan Market, Agogo Clinic, Agogo Market, Huhunya Market, Bukunor Market, Labolabo Clinic as well as to the epicenters including Boti, Akpo, Popornya and Obenyemi, all in the Yilo Krobo District.

At the Somanya Polyclinic, Lawyer Amoatey, aside the covid19 prevention items, also donated some thermometers to support the facility’s activities.

The lawmaker making the donation on behalf of the Yilo Krobo Constituency NDC said the gesture was meant to complement earlier donations made by the Parliamentary Candidate For the area, Albert Nyarkotey who accompanied the sitting MP on his tour.

Accompanied by party bigwigs in the constituency including chairman, Narh Agbo and Vice Chairman and other executives, Lawyer Amoatey believes educating the people to appreciate the devastating effects of the pandemic remains a non-negotiable priority.

“It’s very important that we educate our people to know how dangerous the coronavirus is, how devastating it is,” said the MP, adding that though the constituency is yet to record a case, all hands must nevertheless be on deck to sustain the education through opinion and political leaders.

The two term legislator said the case reported in neighbouring Lower Manya Krobo should serve as a wakeup call for all that the virus can be recorded anywhere at any time.

He called on the public to respect the president’s ‘stay at home order’ as unnecessary socializing could expose them to possible infection as well as heeding the call for all the precautions.

Lawyer Amoatey while presenting the items, took the opportunity to urge the public to follow all the precautionary measures announced by the Ghana Health Service including regular and proper handwashing, staying indoors, using hand sanitizers, etc.

On his part, Parliamentary Candidate for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey explained the need for the public to guard themselves against contracting the infection.

Mr. Nyarkotey while demonstrating proper handwashing called on the public to respect all the precautions to stay safe from the virus including avoiding shaking hands, regular handwashing, covering one’s mouth while coughing, respecting social distance and early reporting if one develops any symptoms.

He promised the continued assistance of the NDC in diverse ways to support the efforts at combating the epidemic in terms of items and education and called on all and sundry to join in the effort.

“Every person has a responsibility towards prevention of the spread of the disease. Each person needs to take up that responsibility,” said Mr. Nyarkotey.

Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Yilo Krobo Health Directorate, Madam Rebecca Onyame who received the items on behalf of the directorate expressed her profound gratitude to the MP, the parliamentary candidate and the entire NDC fraternity for their immense contribution towards the fight of the pandemic.

She was hopeful the gesture will go a long way to support their work during these times and appealed for more support from various stakeholders.

Other recipients of the items including Somanya Police Commander, Isaac Otsin and other heads of the various institutions expressed their profound gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer Magnus Kofi Amoatey, the Parliamentary Candidate, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey and the entire party executives for the gesture.
