A lecturer with the History and Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has said Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo is the wrong choice from the Northern part of Ghana to lead the opposition National Democratic Congress, (NDC).

Dr. Kwesi Amakye Boateng argues, the former Minsiter for Works and Housing does not have any formidable political achievement to his credit that will afford him the leverage to contest for the presidency.

According to Dr. Amakye Boateng, “Alban Bagbin has issues with his political credibility and until he exonerates himself of those defects, I don’t think he is a force to lead the NDC.”

The lecturer was speaking to host of Abusua Nkommo, Kwame Adinkra, in response to declaration by Alban Bagbin, who is now Deputy speaker of Ghana’s law making chamber that he will be contesting in the NDC’s flag bearership race at a time when political actors like Kofi Akpaloo among others have said a northerner will not succeed in leading the NDC.

But Dr. Amakye Boateng says, “Kwame, I disagree with those claiming a northerner can’t successfully the NDC because of Mahama’s bad records.”

“I however strongly believe Bagbin is the wrong person to lead the NDC and this is because he doesn’t have the political achievement to lead the party.”

“Bagbin has issues relating to incest, he doesn’t have any solid achievement and the only thing he can campaign with is maybe his presence in the media and contribution in parliament,” he observed.

Dr. Amakye Boateng adds, “Bagbin cannot also lay credit for mentoring John Mahama because Mahama has rapidly climbed the ladder above he Bagbin.”
