Akufo-Addo is very reckless and incompetent - Joseph Yamin

Former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports is accusing president Akufo Addo of being the “most reckless and incompetent” president Ghana has ever produced in history.

According to Joseph Yamin, the raging internal protest among the rank and file of the ruling New Patriotic Party against the president’s appointments shows a certain lack of assertiveness on the part of the president.

Yamin was speaking to host of the Ultimate Breakfast Show, Lantam Papanko in response to reported revocation and resignation of newly appointed Chief Executive of the Ghana Standards Authority, Otchere-Addai Mensah.

Addai-Mensah’s appointment last week sparked internal protest from some key actors of the NPP who described him as an avowed critic of the president, the NPP as a political party and other important wings of the party as well as some disciplinary decisions taken by the party.

In the wake of these protestations, Otchere Addai-Mensah was said to have declined his appointment while other argue he was compelled by the powers that be to give up the appointment.

But Joseph Yamin believes “the revocation of Addai-Mensah’s appointment is as a result of the president vindictiveness for people who disagreed with him.”

“Akufo-Addo has shown how reckless he is as a leader because as a president, he is supposed to have done due diligence before making appointments so that he would not have to revoke or have internal disagreements with the choices he make.”

“Unfortunately, the president has shown he makes appointments without thinking through and when his party people protest, he will then cancel the appointments and this is very embarrassing…it shows the president is incompetent,” he charged.

“Akufo Addo appointed Kwabena Kokofu and revoked the appointment overnight, he did the same to Sir John, he did it to former Nsuta MP at GOIL and he keeps repeating the same mistake…what kind of president do we have as a country”, Yamin asked.

“Dr. Bawumia is very good at calling president's incompetent and he must not waste time in calling Nana Addo incompetent as he is known to be doing,” he added.
