Airport Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Alex Asante has revealed that he was in his office monitoring the just ended Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by-election when he saw the shooting incident on TV.

According to him, he immediately informed the District Crime Officer, DSP Abena Benewaa who was also monitoring proceedings from her quarters.

He added that he moved to the scene with the officer who was already on her way to his office when he called.

Chief Supt. Asante Darkwa who appeared before the Emile Short Commission on Monday further revealed, they moved to the Legon Hospital where some of the victims were sent and then returned to the scene of the crime.

He added that it was at the office he chanced on some 4X4 vehicles with persons in it.

“I decided to come back to the office to pick my phones because in a hurry, I left all my phones. It was at the office that I saw people trooping to the charge office, then three or four 4X4 vehicles. So I asked the station officer what was happening and he said some people had been arrested and brought there,” he told the Commission.

He further noted that the officer told him that those arrested had some injuries and he in turn asked that they hurry the process to send them to the hospital.

"Personally I did not see the injuries because I had to rush to the scene," he concluded.
