2018 World Cup qualification impossible - GFA technical director

Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association, Francis Oti Akenteng, has said that it will only take miracle for Ghana to qualify to Russia 2018 World Cup ahead of hungry Egyptians side.

Speaking on Kumasi based Boss FM, the former King Faisal trainer indicated that it will be impossible for the Black Stars to qualify for the 2018 mundial in Russia ahead of Egypt.

‘’It’s not an easy task to qualify ahead of Egypt. If we (Ghana) were leading Egypt by five points, we wouldn’t have allowed them to qualify ahead of us so they won’t allow us to qualify too”, says Ghana Football Association technical director Francis Oti Akenteng.

The Pharaohs of Egypt are yet to qualify for the global show piece for the first time since 1990.

Ghana is five points adrift leaders Egypt who have recorded two straight wins in Group D.

The Black Stars have a slim chances of securing their fourth consecutive World Cup appearance after drawing goalless with Uganda and also losing 2-0 away to Egypt in the first two qualifier matches.

Ghana will need to win their remaining four matches and rely on other results to qualify for the World Cup.

Though some Ghanaians belive all is not lost for Ghana to qualify for the World Cup But the Oti Akenteng insists it is impossible for the Black Stars to qualify ahead of Egypt.

Having said that, he indicated the Stars will do their possible best in the remaining four games.

He continued “Despite how difficult it’ll be, we will still try our possible best to qualify for the World Cup. We should be hopeful that we will win our remaining matches and hope of qualifying,”
