A twelve-year-old boy, Maxwell Acheampong , has met his untimely death after falling into an uncovered and abandoned illegal mining ‘galamsey’ pit on Wednesday January 31, 2018, at Nsuem No.2 in the Bosome Freho district of the Ashanti Region.

Confirming the incident to Otec News’ Nana Asare Barimah, the Bosome Freho District Police Commander, ASP Dennis Boateng, said the deceased, also known as Nana Yaw, a class three pupil at Nsuem No.2 Methodist Primary School, was alleged to have gone to the abandoned galamsey pit to swim, around 3pm, after closing from school.

He said the Command got a distress call from the Nsuem No.2 community that a dead body had been found in an abandoned ‘galamsey’ pit.

“When my men got to the scene they saw the lifeless body of the boy floating in the middle of the water and his school uniform near the pit,” he added.

The mortal remains of the boy have since been retrieved and buried.
