Public Holidays

Question
I need to find out the public holidays that are observed in Ghana.

Answer

  • New Year's Day - 1 January -
  • Constitution Day - 7th January
  • Independence Day - 6 March
  • Good Friday - 10 April
  • Easter Monday - 13 April
  • May Day (Workers' Day) - 1st May
  • Eid-Ul-Fitr (se note)
  • Eid-Ul-Adha (see note)
  • Founders' Day - 4 August
  • Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day - 21 September
  • Farmer's Day - 4 December
  • Christmas Day - 25 December
  • Boxing Day - 26 December

Notes
There are no fixed dates for the Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul-Adha because they are movable feasts. The dates for their observation are provided by the Office of the Chief Imam in the course of the year.

Public holidays which fall in the weekend are usually shifted to the next working day
