Afrikans who lighten their skin are destroying the melanocytes which help diffuse ultra violet rays, helps the production of vitamin "B" in the body and protects the dermis. Vitamin "B" also is essential in preventing hypertension.
Additionally the elasticity of the skin is compromised which slows the healing process in the event surgery is needed or if there is an accident. The decrease in skin elasticity will lead to premature wrinkles.
It's ironic that in the U.S. European-Americans have tanning salons because they want to have complexions that have color. We have a saying "they want to look like us but they don't want to be us."
