Miss Earth Ghana 2013 launched

This year’s edition of the Miss Earth beauty pageant has been launched in Accra. Sixteen beautiful contestants were officially outdoored, at a press launch held at the Wildlife Society office in Accra.

The well-organized launch had in attendance representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and Forestry Commission as well as other stakeholders.

This year’s event, which is being held under the theme “The year of Water Corporation”, will primarily focus on protecting Ghana’s water bodies, the organizers have said.

All sixteen contestants will embark on Tree planting, Environmental Education, Beach Resource/Sanitation management activities, Eco fashion shows and Themed photo shoots in the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern and Central Regions, after which it will be packaged for television.

The winner of this year’s Miss Earth beauty Pageant will get a cash award of GHC 5,000, another GHC 5,000 worth of sponsors goods and products, an official car, official wardrobe and she will represent the country at the Miss Earth International.

The first runner up will get a cash prize and products worth GHC 3,000, a Home theatre set to be given at the point of winning, an official wardrobe and participation in an international event.

The 2nd and 3rd Runner up will get GHC 1,500 and GHC 1,000 respectively among other consolation prizes. There will also be special awards for Project, Eloquence, Poise and Attitude, Congeniality, Walk, Face, National Costume and Group Project work.

Miss Earth Ghana 2013 is expected to embark on outreaches and workshops on the environment, in selected educational institutions nationwide.

A unique pageant it is, the Miss Earth encourages “contestants and winners to be actively involved in the promotion and protection of the environment and the conservation of Mother Earth,” Tony Whyte of the Miss Earth organization says.

“Every year Miss Earth Ghana Organization brings together hundreds of contestants from all over the country to contest on beauty and knowledge of environmental issues. Individually and collectively they come to strengthen the Cause they are committed to and the winner becomes the Ambassador to environmental campaigns.”

“Apart from a strong emphasis on environmental protection programmes like the focus on tree planting campaigns, Miss Earth Ghana also aims to promoting and showcasing various tourist destinations to improve eco-tourism in Ghana.”
