Sawla DCE test resident for coronavirus

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region has taken it upon himself to test a resident of Sawla for the coronavirus sparking an intense debate in the Community.

According to some residents who witnessed the unfortunate incident, the DCE’s actions are causing heated conversations in the area with some accusing him of deliberately causing fear and panic.

The unnecessary development has sparked outrage on many social media platforms across the region with others calling for the head of the DCE for recklessly causing fear and panic without taking into consideration the implications.

The DCE Mr Lawal Tamimu is said to have tested a young man in Sawla called Asamoah with a thermometer gun and instantly told the young man he is infected with the Coronavirus because of his temperature.

Bole based Nkilgi FM traced Asamoah on phone and he confirmed that the DCE took his temperature with the infrared thermometer gun.

Asamoah disclosed to Nkilgi FM that he was sitting down taking tea at a tea base in Sawla on Monday 30th March, 2020 when the DCE for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District came to point a thermometer gun at him and said his temperature was high and so has the Coronavirus.

Asamoah said the DCE called him aside and again and pointed the gun at him the second time and said where he was standing brought about a change in his temperature. He said told the DCE to ensure he is quarantined if his statement that he has the Coronavirus is true.

The Sawla resident said he will sue the DCE in court because what he did can result in a stigma on him in the Sawla township. All efforts to get the DCE for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District by Nkilgi FM proved futile.

Meanwhile the DCE for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region Mr Lawal Tamimu has said that there is no Coronavirus case in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District and that everyone should ignore speculations that he has taken it upon himself to test residents of Sawla for the coronavirus.

Mr Lawal Tamimu told Nkilgi FM there is no recorded case of the Coronavirus in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District and that they have to put in place measures to stop the Coronavirus. He said they are protecting the borders and also educating and encouraging people especially on the washing of their hands.

He said they have invited the Muslim and Christian Community for discussion and encouraged people to keep checking their temperature.
