In what appears to be a victory for Sammy Gyamfi and by extension, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Criminal Investigations Department have released the latter after detaining him for about 5 hours.

National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo who led an entourage of key members as well as lawyers to the police headquarters in Accra, described the arrest as a diversionary tactic by the governing NPP.

He maintained the Akufo-Addo led administration was doing everything within their power to distract Ghanaians from pertinent issues such as the rollout of a new voters register which has raised a lot of objections.

The NDC National Communicator who was arrested Monday morning at the premises of the Despite Media group after he served as a panel on the morning show of UTV, was granted bail with two sureties.

According to reports, Mr Gyamfi was arrested due to cybercrime offences levelled against him by the Jubilee House in December 2019.

He was invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Headquarters to help with the investigation into a case of forgery and publication of false information targeted at tarnishing the image of the Akufo-Addo government.

He, however, declined the invitation and filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court, demanding an injunction on an earlier court warrant by the Kaneshi District Court for the seizure of his electronic gadgets.

Further reacting to the development, Deputy General Secretary Peter Otokunor fumed about the arrest of his party member. He questioned the analogy behind Sammy Gyamfi's detention since the case was already in court.
