Power Installation Attacks: It’s not sabotage – Alex Mould

Anybody found to have been behind the recent destruction of a pylon of the Ghana Grid Company Limited or the torching of gas pipelines within the Tema power enclave, must be arrested and prosecuted, Mr Alex Mould, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has said.

Similarly, he said the security personnel who were supposed to provide security for the pylons should be questioned for negligence.

The GRIDCo pylon was downed a couple of weeks ago causing outages in some parts of the country on Monday, 25 March 2019.

A few days ago, too, the Tema gas pipelines were torched.

In an interview with Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Wednesday, 10 April 2019, Mr Mould said: “This is not just limited to sabotage, it can be attributed to certain thugs or certain criminals doing things which are criminal and they should be prosecuted.

“I don’t think it is organised, I think it is just some people taking advantage of the lack of security. Maybe, there is not enough security on our pylons and that is one thing we have to look at.

“Why are people able to do that? Because I know all pipelines or pylons are manned by security people, whether they are private security or government security patrolling these pipelines on a regular basis. The question is: are those people doing their jobs?

“If people know you are patrolling, they won’t do that. I don’t think it is a sabotage, I think it is petty criminals who did that.”
