The Deputy General Secretary of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has asked players plying their trade in the country to accept pay cut to aid their respective clubs amid coronavirus crisis.

There have been calls on local players to emulate the European stars as they take pay cut to help reduce the financial crisis for their clubs.

The outbreak of the disease has halted football related activities in the world including the Ghana Premier League as club owners and administrators begins to take drastic decisions.

It is unclear whether the 2019/2020 league will continue or not due to the Convid-19.

The call to slash down salaries of players has generated argument in the country and adding his voice to the issue is Obiri Boahen who has backed those calling for salary cut among local players.

“I think those calling for salary cut are making sense. The players must willingly take pay cut despite their meager salaries because we are not in normal times. Salary cut is happening everywhere”

“If I were to part of the players, I would have discussed with my teammates to accept pay cut. Pay cut doesn’t necessarily mean taking a huge money out of the entire salary, but any little amount taken out of the salary is also considered as pay cut” He explained.

“Local players cannot be compared to the foreigners in terms of salaries but I think they can cut their coat according to their size” he told Bryt FM in an interview.
