The commitment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reform the standards of education in the country before coming into government by using state funds to fund free education policy is now met according to the President.

The budget for this purpose which is the subject of the appropriations act makes provision of the initiation of the free Senior High School September this year. Critics of government especially those of who are of the view that the free education policy can never be implemented should now believe it can be. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said

“To those who said I was deceiving “Ghanaian people and it was a mere political talk and I have no intention to carry it out and it cannot be carried out, I am hoping they will have humility to admit that they were wrong and have been shamed” President Nana Akufo-Addo told select journalists in Kumasi during media interaction.

The President who was in the Ashanti Region earlier paid a courtesy call to the Asantehene Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace where he also had interaction with various transport unions and market women in the city said he intends to carry through his promise of free SHS by September 2017.

Minister of Education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh who earlier spoke before the President revealed that all technical and vocational education institutions in the country will now fall under education ministry.

He stated government plans to create jobs for the local people and henceforth, all educational materials will be printed locally to give jobs to the unemployed.

“We are not going to award contracts to foreign companies any longer. If anyone wants to print excise books for students the person should be a Ghanaian and such company be owned by a Ghanaian”
