Govt lied over Teshie Desalination project – Ahi

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government lied about the Teshie Desalination project that was started by the previous NDC administration, Member of Parliament for Bodi and a former Deputy Minister Water Resources, Works and Housing, Sampson Ahi, has said.

Mr Ahi has therefore, asked the president to apologise to Ghananins.

His comments come in the wake of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) asking the operators of the Teshie Desalination plant to operate at full capacity to help improve the water supply situation in the country.

The plant was shut down for some technical and operational challenges but resumed operation on March 18, this year.

Commenting on this development in an interview with Accra 100.5FM’s Parliamentary Correspondent, Richard Appiah Sarpong on Friday April 3, Mr Ahi said : “First of all, president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government must come out to apologise to Ghanaians for deceiving Ghanaians in relation to this project.”

“When they come into office we were running the Desalination plant at a full capacity which was giving about 60000 cubic meters of water but they said the plant down with the excuse that the water was salty and so if people should drunk, they were going to fall sick.

“They also closed down the facility for a while because in their view we spent too much money on it.

“They shut it down for three years but after the nation was hit with the COVID 19 and sensing danger they ordered the reopening of the facility on 18th of March.

“The question we ask is that is the water no longer salty? Is the cost better now? They should be just truthful to Ghanaians.”
