From house girl to a TV star; the story of Kokor Asante

Fate has an interesting way of playing into our lives and this is perhaps why someone who makes a living as a house girl would enter the showbiz world and rise faster than those who studied acting at the School of Performing Arts.

“I did not complete JSS but it does not mean I am a complete illiterate. Before I went for the auditions I was working as a house girl. My boss is a good man so he gave me the chance to go for the auditions and I did my best and I was picked.”

“Now almost everywhere I go, it seems almost everyone knows me. People mention my name, people give me fans, people treat me with respect, people want to talk to me and I just feel like a star. I feel very happy and I want to work harder to make people happy so that they would continue to support and correct me,” Ellen Korkor Asante, the lady currently playing lead character in the ‘Afia Schwarzenegger’ television drama series told NEWS-ONE in a mixture of English and Twi.

Kokor said she had no experience whatsoever in acting before going for the auditions and that she only tried her luck because she loves acting.

“My director tells me what to do and I just do it. I don’t look at anybody, I don’t pretend to be somebody, I just want to be myself and as real as possible. With time, I have realized that this is my biggest strength,” Korkor added.
