EC on operations demystifying mission

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has scheduled engagements with some key stakeholders in the country on its operations.

The engagement, according to the elections management body, is expected to afford the commission the opportunity to receive first-hand concerns from Ghanaians regarding its operations.

A statement issued and signed by Sylvia Annoh on Wednesday, 29 May 2019, said: “As part of the Electoral Commission’s efforts to demystify its operations and bring the Commission closer to the citizenry, the Electoral Commission of Ghana is engaging in consultations with key stakeholders in society.

“The purpose of these consultations is to hear, first-hand, what the concerns and issues of key stakeholders are regarding the Commission and its operations. Additionally, the engagements will provide the Electoral Commission with the opportunity to inform stakeholders about its current activities and outlook for the future.

“The delegation is made up of Mrs Jean Mensa, Chairperson; Dr Bossman Eric Asare, Deputy Chairperson, Corporate Services; Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairperson, Operations; and other Commissioners.

The Commission will meet with the clergy, traditional leaders, former presidents and civil society organisations, among others.

The statement further stated: “Already, the Commission has visited a number of media houses including Multimedia, Citi FM, Despite Groups of Companies, Graphic Communications Group and the Ghana Journalists Association.

“Ultimately, it is expected that at the end of these consultations, the Commission would have not only opened its doors and operations but would also have gained tremendously from the insights and experience of stakeholders.”
