Intermittent power outages popular known as ‘dumsor’ have electoral consequences, Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s cousin has said.

Mr Otchere-Darko said Ghanaians will not forgive the government if the current 'dumsor' is not fixed properly and permanently.

He said just as Ghanaians voted out the Mahama-led administration for various reasons including their inability to resolve the four-year 'dumsor', the same can happen to any government that will not be able to deal with any energy crisis in the country.

According to the founder of the Danquah Institute, former President John Mahama and his campaign will benefit from a resurrection of 'dumsor'.

His comments come on the back of recent intermittent power outages experienced across the country.

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the government to admit that 'dumsor' is back and, accordingly, publish a load-shedding timetable to forewarn the citizenry.

The government, however, insists 'dumsor' is not back and has explained that the situation is a result of technical challenges. Energy Minister John Peter Amewu had assured the country that the situation would stabilise in five days but the problem still persists in most parts of the country.

Reacting to the energy situation in a Facebook post, Mr Otchere-Darko, however, expressed confidence in the Minister of Energy to fix the problem.
