Don’t take the NDC for granted – EC warned

Jean Mensa, Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa, Electoral Commission Chairperson

National Communications Team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Gyamfi has once again laid emphasis on what a force the party is and has warned the Electoral Commission (EC) not to attempt to take them for granted.

According to him, the hypocrisy and deceit of the Electoral Commission in their dealings are uncouth and the NDC will always stand against such.

Speaking in an interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Afrifa-Mensah, host of ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, the politician who was obviously not pleased with the dealings of the EC said, “The NDC is no mean a party in Ghana and the EC should in no way think we will let them walk all over us.”

In his opinion, the NDC will not be ignored and deceived by the EC as they did the eminent persons and religious leaders. “The EC did a presentation to the eminent committee and bishops where they assured them that the requirements for compiling the new voters’ register will include the old voter’s identification card.”

He noted that after the eminent committee and the bishops gave the EC, the go-ahead with the compilation of the new register, the EC stabbed them in the back. “The EC did the opposite of what they had agreed to with the eminent committee. Instead of making the old voter ID a requirement for the new voter register, the EC amends it and insists on using passports and the Ghana card as the only requirements.”

The NDC communicator noted that even the Electoral Commissioner who is a learned person sometime back revealed that the old voter ID would be a requirement for compiling the new voter’s register. “So what changed?” he queried.

Brogya Gyamfi reiterated that with all these facts being laid bare, the NDC will in by no way let the EC take them for a ride. “We will stand against the EC till they make the old voter’s ID a requirement for compiling the new register.”
