Coronavirus: Zoomlion disinfects UG, UPSA campuses

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has rolled out an extended edition of disinfection exercise for corporate and educational institutions to combat the Novel Coronavirus.

The team of over 300 skilled personnel deployed by the Waste Management Company stormed the University of Ghana, UG, and The University of Professional Studies, UPSA, campuses on Saturday to sanitize the environment.

Abedenego Feehi Okoe Amartey, Vice-Chancellor of UPSA commended government, Zoomlion Company limited and Citi News for disinfecting their facility amid the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.

According to Mr Okoe Amartey the exercise which his outfit had routinely engaged in the past has come at a very a crucial time at no cost to the institution.

Responding to questions on the university’s preparedness to host students and staff in a safe environment should restrictions be lifted for school to commence, he said, “Our outfit is adequately prepared to manage the current situation. There are stocks of Veronica Buckets, hand sanitizers, soap and other forms of detergents to be used when school resumes.

“Our lecturers are also well equipped with the requisite information to further educate students on how to stay safe from the pandemic that has brought the world to its knees”.

He applauded the efforts of waste management giant, Zoomlion, government and Citi News in the fight against coronavirus, and assured that his outfit will strictly adhere to the preventive measures announced by the experts in combating the novel virus.

The Coordinator for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Disinfection Exercise of the Zoomlion, Mrs Lola Asiseh Ashitey on her part indicated that, apart from the disinfection of markets across 13 regions in the country, Zoomlion is targeting corporate and educational institutions which hosts thousands of individuals to curb the spread of the virus.

In a briefing to the media, she indicated that her outfit finds it necessary to extend their services to institutions as part of its Corporate Social Rsesponsibility, CSR, to combat the devastating virus and save lives.

The scope of this wave of disinfection exercise cover corporate institutions, all public educational institutions and some selected private universities in the country to ensure that after the global pandemic has been brought under, students and staff don’t return to potentially infected facilities.

The exercise which is ongoing has engaged over 300 disinfection team to facilitate activities.

On Thursday, the team went to sanitize Dzorwulu Special School, Ghana School of Law in Accra, Mampong School of the deaf and the Akropong School of the blind.

Other institutions to benefit from the exercise include the University of Ghana, Central University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to mention a few.
