Asuogyaman NPP parliamentary candidate celebrates recovered coronavirus patients

The twelve Coronavirus patients who have recovered in the Asuogyaman district are heroes, NPP parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman has said.

Mr. Paul Asare Ansah whilst celebrating the recovered patients at a special party he organized for them at Apegusu said survivors of the disease were heroes who must be celebrated.

“For those who triumphed over the virus, we shall call them heroes. They are heroes, they are war heroes,” he said.

It was joy and funfair at Apegusu in the Asuogyaman constituency in the eastern region on Sunday, 17th May 2020, as the entire Apegusu community led by the aspiring NPP MP for the area celebrated five out of the 12 recovered Coronavirus patients.

The five survivors each took home, two bottles of cooking oil, 2 crates of eggs, a fowl, bags of rice and an undisclosed amount of money from Mr. Paul Asare Ansah to support them as they reintegrate into the society.

The celebration which drew several well-wishers was to welcome three members of the Apegusu community and the other recovered patients back into the society.

The five who were all part of the AFCON workers who subsequently tested positive in the Camp ‘B’ after the first case was reported on March 31, 2020, were part of the 12 recoveries reported among the AFCON employees. The other seven recoveries are Indian expatriates.

Mr. Ansah while sounding the determination of all and sundry to win the war against coronavirus however called for caution to avoid a resurgence in the constituency.

He was happy with the citizens’ commitment to the fight including the District Chief Executive Health Director, the Deputy Minister of Information and the Member of Parliament for the area.

The NPP parliamentary candidate also urged residents to be vigilant and ensure persons who enter into the District are screened for the virus to avoid its resurgence.

“This is the time to be vigilantes for the Covid-19 fight,” he said adding that the people must resolve against the return of the virus to their communities.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Akuffo Addo for his timely measures that have helped manage the spread of the disease in the country.

Mankrado of Akwamu Adonten Traditional Area-Apegusu, Nana Dedey Akwei II, hailed the recovery of the five persons and commended the various roles played in the fight against the pandemic, particularly that of Mr. Paul Ansah who has supported various communities and institutions with coronavirus prevention items.

He also acknowledged the role played by the Akwamuhene, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto for the various measures he has instituted to curb the spread of the virus. Nana Dedey Akwei II has cautioned members of the community against stigmatizing survivors of the disease and urged all to adhere to the various safety protocols.

Asuogyaman District Director of Health Services, Abdul Aziz Abdullah said all 343 contacts traced have tested negative. Per this disclosure, he said the district was now free of the virus but warned the general public to respect all the safety protocols being preached to ensure that no new cases are recorded.

He encouraged the people to call the emergency lines if they noticed any symptoms similar to the disease and encouraged them against any fears of testing to know one's status as they would recover even if they tested positive. Mr. Aziz called on the general public to support health personnel who were committed to the eradication of the virus.

The recovered were discharged after a month at a quarantine treatment center and the zero positive cases from the contacts traced means Asuogyaman is now free from the virus,a status authorities are determined to maintain.

The survivors unanimously thanked the entire community for the warm reception back into their midst and cautioned the general public to be watchful in their daily activities since the virus is real.
