Asiedu Nketia now reducing politics to comedy – Akomea

The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected claims that is plotting with traitors in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to remove the Majority Leader, Alban Bagbin from Parliament.

The NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito has accused the NPP of using traitors within the NDC to orchestrate the removal of the Majority Leader from his Nadowli-Kaleo seat because they see him as the greatest threat to their political course in Parliament.

There have been rumours that the Presidency is scheming to cause the defeat of Mr Bagbin because of the bad blood between him and President John Mahama.

But addressing the Nadowli-Kaleo Traditional Council in Wa, Wednesday, John Asiedu Nketia aka General Mosquito denied the rumour saying that the President is at peace with Hon. Bagbin and will not do anything to rock his boat going into the December 7 election.

He alleged that it was rather the opposition NPP which has engaged traitors in the NDC to remove Mr Bagbin who has served as MP for the past 24 years.

“It is not everybody that wants Bagbin in Parliament and those who dread his name want to find ways of removing him from Parliament. If they come frontally they know they will be defeated, so they are coming through us the NDC, the NPP… the name they fear in Parliament is Bagbin, and when they fear you and know they cannot attack you frontally because they know when they attack you frontally and unmasked themselves as NPP attacking Bagbin… they know NDC will come round and defend Bagbin. So they go behind and use some of the NDC people so that they will appear to attack from within and then NPP will say it is his own people who are attacking him and we don’t have anything to do with it, it is a lie.”

He added: It is NPP that is using pliable NDC hands to do that agenda, so those pliable NDC hands are traitors, and Nelson Mandela says a traitor is worse than the enemy himself. So we are clear in our minds in Accra, from the leadership of the party, President Mahama sends me to tell you that those who are rumouring around that it is in his interest to see Bagbin out of Parliament…they are not NDC people. President Mahama is not sponsoring any candidate in Nadowli-Kaleo here and no genuine NDC person is sponsoring other candidate in Nadowli-Kaleo. So our one and only candidate here is Alban Bagbin, NPP when they want to destroy you they use your own people around you to destroy you.”

But in a sharp rebuttal, the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, told Joy News, that the accusation must be treated with the contempt that it deserves, as the NPP is not the least interested in the enmity that exist between President Mahama and Alban Bagbin.

He said Johnson Asiedu Nketia is making every effort to reduce Ghana’s political discourse into some kind of comedy which he didn’t start today and described that as very unfortunate.

“You remember that during the Election petition hearing when some people besieged wielding canes and lashing people who were attending the court, Asiedu Nketia said these were NPP people who had been put in NDC T-shirts to beat up on NPP people. This is pure comedy and today he’s saying it is the NPP which has recruited NDC footsoldiers to talk about enmity between President Mahama and Alban Bagbin, I mean this is the most sorry comment, what will the NPP gain if there is enmity between Mahama and Bagbin… how does that benefit the NPP.”

He added: “Is it the NPP which got Alban Bagbin to tell the country that the John Mahama government was composed of family and friends. Is it the NPP which asked Alban Bagbin to talk about his believe that John Mahama the President cannot fight corruption, and that appointments have been into his government based on monetary consideration, that was Alban Bagbin. Perhaps that is the NDC modus operandi under Asiedu Nketia’s direction so he sees everything that happens as some other person orchestrating it. The NPP has nothing to do with the enmity between Mahama and Bagbin, we cannot go and manipulate Alban Bagbin and Asiedu Nketia must stop the comedy.”
