Akufo-Addo visits Kofi Annan’s family; here’s what he wrote in the book of condolence

President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has visited the family of the late Secretary General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, to commiserate with them.

Ghana and the rest of the international community last Saturday woke up to news of the death of Kofi Annan aged 80.

In a statement announcing his death, the Kofi Annan Foundation said he "passed away peacefully on Saturday after a short illness."

Joining in the chorus of tributes to Kofi Annan, President Akufo-Addo described him as a “Consummate international diplomat and highly respected” person who “brought considerable renown to our country by this position and through his conduct and comportment in the global arena” and directed that the Ghanaian flag flies at half-mast across the country and in the country’s foreign missions abroad in deference to the deceased.

The president in a Facebook post, Monday announced he had visited the family on Sunday and signed the book of condolence in honour of the late Kofi Annan.

“A great Ghanaian who served his country, Africa and humanity with dignity and humility, has left us to join his Maker. Ghana has suffered a great loss from his passing. He brought great renown to our nation, and it is my wish that our nation honours him fully on his passing. God bless him and grant him a peaceful place of abode in his bosom.” he wrote in the book of condolence.
