Akufo-Addo engaging in ‘whitewash governance’ – NDC’s Kale Cezar

An aspiring National Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kale Cezar, has launched a scathing attack on the NPP Akufo-Addo led government, describing it as ‘whitewashing’ government.

The Akufo-Addo administration which has been in power from January 2017 after massively winning the 2016 elections has started implementing some of its major campaign promises including one district one factory, free SHS, one village one dam and host of others.

But, the deputy general secretary aspirant believes the current government has performed woefully in the past one-and-half years.

“My view is that President Akufo-Addo and his government are not engaging in any realistic development, hey are rather engaging in top dressing or white wash governance. If you look at all the policy initiative spelt out by this government right from its inception, even right from its manifesto implementation you realized that all the policies it has outlined are not implemented in full. Take for instance the free SHS which is the biggest policy framework of the NPP is something that now is haunting Ghanaians,” Kale Cedar said.

He stressed, "So I think that the government is not prepared enough implementing this free SHS that has accounted for this double track system, I think government should have thought through this policy very well just like what former president Mahama started”.

“Apart from the SHS, government said it will give every constituency one million dollar, as of today, not even a dime has been given to anybody, we are told that in the northern sector they will provide one village one dam, what the government has succeeded in doing is that they have selected few villages in the northern part to start digging some dams, just to tell Ghanaians they are implementing that particular program which has not been fully implemented,” he added.

He argues government has performed very poorly in all sectors of the economy, since taking office.

“Government performance has been so abysmal, I will score them even below 30% because currently what is happening, the president himself has admitted that times are hard in Ghana. We are in crisis and the government is very economical with the truth, fuel prices are so high now, people can’t afford even two square meals, so they are engaged in just deception and trying to portray themselves are doing better but they are doing nothing.”

On the chances of his party ahead of the 2020 crucial elections, Kale Cezar expressed optimism that the opposition NDC will win convincingly, due to the positive measures put in place, to restructure the party.

"We are not banging our hope on the abysmal performance of the NPP, what NDC is looking at is building our own internal structures very well, putting our synergies together and building a very strong party capable of winning the 2020 elections. Remember we lost fundamentally because of some divisions within our party, we lost 50 seats due to our own internal divisions and challenges.

This is what we are focused on, if we are able to patch up bring all of us together then we can win 2020. And if the exercise we are undertaking now succeeds, then it means even if the NPP do well with the management of the economy, they will still lose,” the NDC deputy general secretary hopeful said.
