Beverly Afaglo, actress and wife of Choirmaster, a former member of the music trio Praye has indicated her desire to venture into the Kumawood movie industry, where the movies are mostly done in the local Akan dialect.

The beautiful actress who has mainly featured in English productions in the past revealed on the popular satirical talk show, Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thompson last Sunday on Joy Prime that she is back from her short break and is prepared to explore all options.

“I am open for discussions. I am even ready to cross to Kumawood,” she told host Nii Kpakpo Thompson.

Several ‘English’ Ghanaian actors have crossed over to Kumawood in the past, with the likes of Prince David, Juliet Ibrahim and Van Victor leading the charge. Akan language movies are the preferred choice for many Ghanaians today, especially after Kumawood saved the Ghana movie industry few years ago when the competition from neighboring Nigeria was very keen. Van Victor remarked few months ago that, “No matter what anybody says, Kumawood is a blessing to the Ghana film industry.”

Beverly Afaglo also opened up about how it feels like being in a union where both spouses are all public figures, insisting that it creates more understanding in the relationship.

“There is more understanding in it. It might not be too comfortable sometimes because both of you can’t do certain things. If I wasn’t a public figure and he was, probably I would be able to go to the market and shop for all of us and we would be okay and live our lives normal. It is normal in terms of building a family but sometimes out there; the way people see us…our lives are out there even if we don’t put it out there.”

Despite winning several awards in the past, and featuring in many hit movies, the beautiful actress maintained that she is not someone overly excited about stardom.

“I wouldn’t say I enjoy the attention because I am not the type that I step out my home or car hoping that somebody recognizes me or hoping that somebody will say okay that is a celebrity out there. It is my image I am protecting not celebrity status. It is my person that am protecting, that this Beverly; “I don’t wanna do this, I don’t want to cross this line, not a celebrity status.”” Tonight with Nii Kpakpo Thompson now airs on Joy Prime, Sundays at 8:30pm.
