7 top politicians who slayed in smock at new Ya-Na's investiture

It was a show of deep traditions and culture as the new overlord of the Dagbon kingdom, Ya-Na Mahama Abubakari was, was outdoored on Friday, January 25.

The beautiful ceremony held at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi saw the creme-de-la-creme in Ghana's political landscape and other prominent people attending.

As if it had been planned, many of these politicians who attended decided to wear the traditional dress of the Dagomba people, smocks (batakari).

Led by the new Ya-Na himself there was a plethora of beautiful smocks which could easily qualify the occasion as a festival of smocks.

YEN.com.gh brings you photos of some of the best smocks worn at the investiture on Friday.

1. Ya-Na Mahama Abubakari II:



Being the traditional dress for his people, the new Ya-Na had to lead the charge and he looked very splendid in this.

2. President Nana Akufo-Addo:



Appearing at the durbar grounds in a cream-looking smock top and down with brown leather (skin) boot, Akufo-Addo stole the show at the durbar.

Being an Akan, his decision to dress in a full Dagomba regalia obviously endered him to the many people around. He looked exquisite for the occasion.

3. Johnson Asiedu Nketia:



The NDC general secretary has been trolled over his outfit for the occasion but looking at his pictures, he obviously did not look out of place.

Former president Mahama is known to like smocks and he did not disappoint on this occasion.



As a Dagbon native, the Minority Leader could not have gone wrong with his traditions and he really looked so nice in his white smock.

6. Alhassan Suhuyini:

Just like his leader in parliament, Suhuyini is from the Dagbon area and could not have got it wrong.


7. Dominic Nitiwul:



The Defence minister is also from the north and he looked in this colourful smock.
