The Migration Information Centre of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has refused entry of 53 Ivoirians who attempted to enter the country through Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire border towns in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region.

The Ivoirians attempted to enter the country through 19 unapproved routes in the District, but the vigilance of the GIS officials in the area exposed them.

Superintendent Haruna Alhassan, the Head of the Centre, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, the GIS had intensified monitoring in all the approved and unapproved routes in the area to ensure migrants from neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire would not enter the country to spread the COVID-19.

He said apart from the six approved routes in the area, the GIS had mounted additional two checkpoints and appealed to residents along the border towns to assist the Service to check unlawful entry of migrants into the country.
