A year ago, a former Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, disclosed the reason losing political party leaders and the parties find it difficult to accept defeat after elections.

Speaking at a workshop organised by the West African Election Observers Network in Accra on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, he said politicians collect huge sums of monies from individuals and other stakeholders with the aim of compensating them when they are voted into power hence, find excuses to pay back when they lose the elections.

He said, “I have suspicion about why they do that, first of all, they collect huge sums of money from people with the promise that when they win, they will be compensated”.
