The United States Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur L. Ross Jr has reiterated US government’s commitment to expanding trade, investments and cultural ties between Ghana and the United States of America.

According to him, his country’s visit to Ghana is to enforce and solidify the bonds already created between both countries.

The U.S. Secretary for Commerce is leading a sixty (60) member delegation from the President Donald Trump ‘President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa’ (PAC-DBIA) on a fact-finding mission to Ghana.

The visit is aimed at providing an opportunity for the delegation to gather insight into market opportunities and challenges faced by U.S. businesses in the fast-growing Ghanaian economy.

The PAC-DBIA will use this information to provide President Trump with reliable and actionable recommendations to deepen commercial relationships in Ghana.

Speaking at the 242nd Independence anniversary of the United States at the US Embassy, Wilbur Ross announced the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) his country signed with the Finance Minister, which he claims will deepen economic cooperation and also bring the two nations together.

“We share a strong history of independence and democracy with Ghana. Today, your country is one of the leading democracies in all of Africa. Our visit underscores US commitment to expanding trade, investments and cultural ties between Ghana and the United States and all of sub-Sahara Africa. We are here to further enforce and solidify the bonds between our two countries. I had the honour this morning to co-sign with your finance minister a memorandum of understanding between our two countries and it was witnessed by your president. This is yet another step in bringing our two nations closer together”, he said.

US Embassy on Wednesday, July 4 held a colourful ceremony with live band music and fireworks to mark its 242nd Independence anniversary. It was also used as a farewell platform for its Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson who is bringing his diplomatic career to an end.

Wilbur Ross commended Robert Jackson for his hard work thanking him for representing the United States in Ghana so well.

“America is blessed to have people like you representing our country so ably and for so long. You have been a paragon of American diplomacy and a role model for so many people”, he stated.

The ceremony was attended by high profile dignitaries including Vice President; Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Trade and Industry Minister; Alan Kyerematen, Lands and Natural Resources Minister; Peter Amewu, Parliamentarians and Traditional Rulers.
