Stop unveiling KVIPs; open Mahama projects – Volta NDC to Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Volta regional branch of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to inaugurate all completed infrastructural projects in the region which were undertaken by the John Mahama administration.

A statement issued by Bright Delali Kugbeadzor, Deputy Communication Officer of the party in the region expressed the NDC’s displeasure with the failure of Mr Akufo-Addo to inaugurate the completed projects.

The statement said some significant projects that were initiated and completed by the Mahama administration and are ready for inauguration but have not been opened include the ultra-modern Ho Central Market, the ultra-modern Ho Abattoir, and the Volta regional office of the National Communication Authority.

“We urge the President to shun celebrating mediocrity by commissioning private-owned Astro Turfs, KVIP toilets and J.B. Danquah Memorial Centres, and rather commission these afore-mentioned monumental projects in the region bequeathed to him by his predecessor, John Dramani Mahama.

The statement added: “It is instructive to note that the Volta Region is not the only casualty of this deliberate indifference by the Akufo-Addo government. Many significant national projects initiated by the erstwhile Mahama-led NDC administration have either been left without commissioning (where such projects are completed) or summarily abandoned (where uncompleted).

“About 1,500 housing units, costing $180 million built under the Saglemi housing project, near Tsopoli in the Ningo-Prampram District in the Greater Accra Region have remained unoccupied, almost two years after the facility had been inaugurated. Same can be said of the Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport. Though many of the projects, especially the Terminal 3 of the K.I.A, have received both local and international praise, the NPP government has failed on a number of occasions to officially commission it regardless of the fact that it has been opened for business.

“One thing that must be made clear to Ghanaians is that any time government fails to complete projects of this nature, especially when funding has been sourced for same, it is neither the government nor the president that loses anything but the ordinary poor citizens of Ghana. The president and his appointees draw their fat monthly salaries with the concomitant bonuses and Per Diem allowance as and when the need be.

“Inasmuch as we appreciate the fact that resources may be scarce and may not be readily available to complete all projects at the same time, we would like to see the government of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo continue to complete the projects started by his predecessor John Dramani Mahama which are of collective national interest.”
