Hundreds of mourners, particularly politicians converged at the Grace Presbyterian Congregation in Accra to take part in the one-week memorial service held in honour of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Kyeremateng Agyarko.

The late Kyeremateng Agyarko died exactly a week ago at a hospital in the United States after a short illness.

The memorial service was attended by President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Mustapha Hamid, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Seth Terkper, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, among other dignitaries.

The ceremony was solemn as most sympathisers seem to be in deep thought trying to fathom how a “cheerful” man like Agyarko could die.

Boakye Agyarko, brother of the late MP could not hold his tears as he kept wiping his face throughout the service.

Colleague Members of Parliament who spoke to Ghanaweb at the sidelines of the service shared their fondest memories of Agyarko and how he was loved by many in and outside the NPP.

They eulogized the late law maker as a friendly person who related well with all manner of people regardless of their social status.

Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development, Mustapha Hamid narrated how selfless the late legislator was as he recalled how Mr. Agyarko assisted him to get a medication he needed.

‘’The last time I had close interaction with him was when I was looking for a medicine called Provigil and when the doctors said I should find Provigil, I didn’t know where to find it. Instinctively he was the person that I called. You know he was a pharmacist and so I called him and apparently he was at Heathrow Airport trying to board a plane but he picked up my call and I said boss where can I find a medicine called Provigil. He says, ‘oh I’m about to board a plane but give me 5 minutes I will call you back.”

“Under normal circumstances, somebody will just continue to board his plane and forget about you, but 5 minutes he called indeed and said I should go to the pharmacy at Movenpick or another pharmacy at Osu near photo club and that I will get it. I mean I was really touched by that kind of gesture and so many people have told me instances where they too have sought his assistance and he sacrificed everything,” he added.
