Nominations not opened for NDC parliamentary primaries - Gunu

Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, James Gunu Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, James Gunu

Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has debunked reports that the Party had opened nominations for parliamentary primaries in the region.

Mr Gunu, in a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the National Executive Committee (NEC) has not asked prospective parliamentary candidates to declare their intentions and asked members to ignore such reports.

Mr Gunu said Article 41(1) of the Party's constitution stated that NEC shall notify each Constituency Executive Committee as to the time nominations would be opened for parliamentary primaries and that such notifications were yet to be made.

He said guidelines on the election of parliamentary candidates were also yet to be given as per the Party’s constitution and called for a stop to “anti-party conduct”.

Mr Gunu said internal party unity and discipline were critical for the Party's victory in the 2020 election and that the party was committed to giving all prospective candidates a level playing field when nominations were opened.

He said the Party would not hesitate to apply the necessary sanctions against any individual or groups that may violet the rules of the Party.

“Time table and guidelines for the Party’s parliamentary primaries will come out at the right time and communicated accordingly but for now, our attention, focus and concentration is on the presidential primaries, which comes off on January 26, 2019,” he said.
