The National Democratic Congress has outdoored another vigilante group, Lions at the National Delegates Congress despite barring all of such groups providing security at the event.

Chairman of the NDC Congress Planning Committee, Alex Segbefia speaking to the media ahead of the congress said no vigilante groups within the party would be entertained, stressing that the party will not employ the services of vigilante groups to provide security on that day.

In a turn of events however, as preparations are underway at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre; which is the venue of the party’s congress, security personnel clad in shirts labelled ‘Lions’ have been spotted at the grounds of the event providing security.

This goes contrary to claims that they have been barred from being at the conference and it is expected that the rest of the vigilante groups will join them in providing security.

The 9th National Annual Delegates Congress of the NDC will see 65 aspirants consisting of 59 males and six females contesting for various national executive positions of the party.

About 15,000 people, made up of 5,650 observers and 9,350 delegates are expected to decide on which of the aspirants they would prefer to manage the affairs of the party in the upcoming years.

As many as 300 police officers will be deployed and according to the police, they’ve made adequate preparations to provide security for the aspirants, delegates and officials of the Electoral Commission.
