Flagbearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekow Spio-Garbrah has said members of the party now find it extremely difficult to mention the founding values of the NDC which are probity, integrity and accountability.

According to him, the party has derailed from its ethos that distinguishes it from other political parties in Ghana.

Ex President J.J Rawlings who founded the largest opposition party, NDC has said the party was voted out of power because of sickening greed, selfishness and corruption.

According to him such practices are contrary to the values upheld by the NDC, describing them as a “betrayal of the values of June 4,” which are probity, transparency and accountability.

Hon. Ekow Spio Garbrah who served under ex President Rawlings as Communications Minister urged the NDC to return to its roots and practice the values upon which it was formed to ensure victory for the party in the 2020 general elections.

“Many people are afraid to pronounce the words, probity, integrity and accountability, Ex President Rawlings reminded us at our 2016 campaign launch in Cape Coast that the NPP you’re going to fight with is a party that has been around for a long time, has gone through metamorphosis, changing its colours from UP, PP, PFP and now NPP. If you’re going to fight this party and you use how many school, roads you’ve built they can also come and tell you one district-one factory and defeat you. Go back to your values, go to what distinguishes you, that’s your ethos, values. And for some reason we difficulty doing that.

“I sit here and say that I have no discomfort in promoting those values that the NDC stands for and which at least according to ex President Rawlings could give us that advantage in a fight with the NPP,” Spio Garbrah told host Paul Adom Otchere on Good Evening Ghana show.
