The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the East Mamprusi Municipality has intensified its efforts in the fight against corruption.

The exercise, implemented as the first phase of education on the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP), is aimed at promoting environmental friendliness as well as helping to increase accountability to check activities of corruption in the country.

The exercise, organized by NCCE and supported by the European Union (EU), seeks to promote good governance and lobby for increased accountability on duty bearers amongst others.

The exercise dubbed: “Citizens for Transparency and Accountability”, focuses on engaging the citizenry on issues related to Anti-Corruption and the National Anit-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) and issues on ARAP.

The one-month exercise covered artisan groups, women groups, traditional authorities, Faith Based Organizations (FBO), educational institutions, and hospitals/clinics as well as dawn and dust broadcast covering 52 activities.

As part of the engagement sessions, the NCCE staff urged the public to eschew corrupt acts and crave the support for spouses and family members to help them live upright lives to contribute towards the development of the country.

They said the negative effects of corruption on the economy and the citizenry could be attributed to our underdeveloped status, poverty as well as the inadequate spread of social amenities such as potable water, health facilities among others.

Mr Abu Alhassan Nassam, Municipal Director of NCCE, appealed to government and other agencies to empower the various institutions responsible for fighting corruption to help eradicate the practice from the society.
