Reports indicate that the Ministry of Education has confirmed the University of Education Winneba’s Governing Council appointments, tasking the New Vice Chancellor to pursue a vigorous agenda of reconciliation and bridge-building.

At a packed meeting in the conference room of the Ministry of Education, where all the council members were present, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education and Prof Yankah, Minister of State (Tertiary) took turns to address Council Members of the NEW.

Our trusted source confirmed a healthy discussion ensued where the sector Minister urged the Council to take steps to make known to the public its major success stories.

The new VC Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful Bronie was congratulated on his appointment appointment as the substantive VC for UEW for 3 years and urged to ensure reconciliation.

Napo, as the education minister is affectionately called, also advised convocation members of the council to advise lecturers to stay away from media campaign and not to undermine the authority and power of the Council.

Council Chairman Prof Nicholas Abeka thanked the minister and assured him of the resolve of council in ensuring student satisfaction and value for money in all procurement activities under the council.

Earlier, the Minister of State in-charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, had said he was not sure if the University of Education’s Governing Council dismissed the former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke, and four others in line with laid down regulations.

Professor Yankah said he was not yet aware if these procedures were adhered to.

“I’ve been away for a while and I have not been in touch with them to explain the entire circumstances as to whether the entire procedure, which I am aware in all universities involves advertising for the vacant position, a search party instituted to look for the new vice chancellor, the report of the search party brought before the council… for the council to make a final decision were followed.”

The five principal officers were interdicted in July 2017 by the UEW governing council to allow for investigations after it emerged that some vital documents at some offices at the center of an ongoing investigation had gone missing.
