Mahama said nothing but the truth on NPP training thugs for 2020 – Sammy Gyamfi

National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has stated categorically that earlier pronouncement made by flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama on the recruitment of NPP thugs for the purposes of election 2020 was nothing but the truth.

According to him, the NDC has in their possession pictures and other indisputable evidence about the thugs undergoing combat techniques and other military drills at Asutuare.

His comment comes after the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buabeng Asamoah stated that John Mahama's claims were verbal flames on the incoming general elections, thereby calling on Ghanaians to discard that information.

Sammy Gyamfi further indicated that the NDC is ready to deploy every legal means to resist any attempt by the Akufo-Addo led administration to introduce any contrary security arrangement that can undermine the sanctity of the 2020 general elections.

It will be recalled that former President Mahama during his courtesy call on
the President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney stated that “at the time of Ayawaso West Wuogon, there was a letter that came out asking party executives to bring able-bodied people to be trained as security. Since then, we have evidence that those people have been to Asutuare and trained in batches over and over again in all kinds of combat techniques and other things.”

He has described the situation as worrying, fearing that the action taken by then NPP could destabilise the country.

“If you lose an election and you believe that it was free and fair, you don’t any cause to cause confusion. But if you feel that you were cheated, then sometimes emotions can run high,” the NDC flagbearer stated.
