Mahama can’t fight corruption even if forced - NPP

President John Mahama can never fight corruption even if he is forced to, the opposition New Patriotic Party has said.

This is because he epitomizes corruption, according to the NPP’s policy advisor in the forthcoming general elections, Boakye Agyarko.

Mahama's presidency, he said, is a vehicle for amassing wealth for family and friends to the detriment of the masses.

“Let it be stressed, when it comes to corruption, President John Mahama sees no wrong, hears no wrong and speaks against any wrong. To him that is just the way it is,” said Mr. Agyarko Monday at a press conference to counter the governing National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) manifesto for the 2016 polls.

Addressing the press conference themed: “Promises made; Promises broken, Promises repeated” Mr. Agyarko questioned President Mahama’s credibility in fighting the menace.

He said, “How can Ghanaians expect a Vice President, John Mahama, who was investigated by his boss, President John Atta Mills, over allegations of corruption, to have the moral authority and desire to fight corruption when he is now the boss?

“How can we expect a president who admits to accepting a $100,000 gift from a foreign contractor, who was awarded a government contract through the efforts of the President, to have the courage and desire to stop his Ministers and other officials from dipping their hands into the state coffers?

“How can we expect a president who has spent four years to protect his friends who were found to have allegedly stolen public funds through instruments such as GYEEDA and SADA to allow any case of corruption to be prosecuted?"

Phantom Promises
Mr. Agyarko also described the NDC’s 2016 manifesto as a scam laden with phantom promises. He thus urged Ghanaians not to fall for it [manifesto] as it is nothing but lies.

He said since 2009 when the NDC assumed leadership of the country, the economy has witnessed no growth asserting that claims by President Mahama that the economy is on the right track is palpable falsehood and a “figment of the imagination of the NDC.”

“A government that puts people first is one that is competent and implement promises that makes life better for all, not the one that takes away from the people. It is evident John Mahama cannot be trusted to put people first. It is rather a government that puts corruption first,” said Mr Agyarko.

He thus called on Ghanaians to consider the “threat to their livelihood with another four years of John Dramani Mahama” as his manifesto offers nothing but a recipe for failure.”
