'Incompetent' Nana Addo has failed his campaign promises on Creative Arts - Ola Michaels

Entertainment critic, Ola Michaels has lambasted President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, over his failure to fulfil his campaign promises for the entertainment sector.

Speaking as a guest on GH Entertainment with host Prince Kwesi Dadzie aka Mr Handsome Saturday, the entertainment critic and strong supporter of the previous Mahama administration minced no words in describing Nana Addo as incompetent.

He wondered why the NPP has failed in delivering on the one-region one theatre, which was captured in their manifesto.

He opined that, the NPP has failed the creative arts despite the major promises they made in 2016. In 2016, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayokor Botchwey said except Accra which has a modern theatre, the remaining nine regional capitals will have their share of theatres.

She said very little attention has been given to that creative industry but the party will reverse that trend.

She announced new measures to be put in place for the industry when the party comes to power, one of which is a Creative Arts Council which will coordinate and harmonize the various interests and fragmented associations into a well-functioning body to protect the interests of members.

The manifesto said the NPP government will focus on transforming the country into a major Meeting, Incentive, Conference, & Exhibition (MICE) centre, as well as on expanding the tourism sector, through investment, innovation, the pursuit of service excellence and meaningful partnerships.

This will enable tourism to become a major revenue- generating sector that provides safe, memorable and enjoyable experience for tourists. The party also promised to establish a Creative Arts Fund to make available funds to modernize and develop the creative Arts industry in Ghana.

A division of the High Court was to be tasked to focus on the Creative Arts and deal with all matters relating to intellectual property rights, and a dedicated enforcement unit.

Ola Michaels commenting on these promises said, ‘’these were the promises by the NPP. Where are the theatres? Where is the special court? Where is the creative arts fund? Nana Addo has failed woefully as compared to what the former President Mahama did. Mahama did his best for the creative arts industry. He is performance was exceptional,’’ he added.
