I'm not ditching NDC, not forming new party – Kunbuor

A member of the Council of Elders of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Benjamin Kunbuor has denied media publications that he, together with three other stalwarts, is breaking away from the party to form a splinter group – the seed of a new party.

The publication said Dr Kunbuor had been part of a series of meetings at which the members conspired against the NDC.

Reacting to the allegation on Class91.3FM’s 505 news analysis programme on Monday, 21 January 2019, Dr Kunbuor said he found the publication “strange.”

He told Valentina Ofori-Afriyie that: “I can say for the past two to three months, I can’t remember even attending any meeting at all apart from academic meetings in Legon, so, I found the publication very strange.

“I’ve not come across anything like a Pick-Up or a Land Cruiser, there is nothing like that. I’ve not even held a discussion with any of those personalities in relation to NDC generally, let alone the formation of a political party.

“I just cannot fathom why people will fabricate stories like this and put it out on social media.”

Asked directly if he was planning to leave the NDC, Dr Kunbuor said: “I don’t think so, and I haven’t said so, and I think once I identify the publishers of this type of fabrication, this is not a lawless country, it is a country governed by rules and it’s a country that protects everybody’s privacy and reputation and there are enough rules that guide us and there are available remedies for that and those particular channels will be explored in this particular matter.”
